Receive funding
The Deutschlandstipendium supports students of all nationalities with good and very good performance in their studies. They receive 300 euros per month for one year – independent of income and in addition to BAföG benefits. One half is financed by the Federal Government, and the other by private donors.
Who can apply?
All students who are enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree programme or for the state examination at the Humboldt-Universität can apply. The requirements for a scholarship are broad: good academic performance is essential, but social commitment or the successful mastering of difficult life circumstances and educational paths are also included. It is possible to extend scholarships within the standard period of study.
How and when can I apply?
You can apply via the online portal. Deutschlandstipendien at the Humboldt-Universität are awarded once a year, at the beginning of the summer semester.
Please note: the next application period is 18 November - 15 December 2024.
Provisional number of scholarships available in funding year 2024/2025 (as at: October 2024, subject to change)
Our private donors that pledge 50% of the funding of each scholarship can earmark their funds for specific degree programs or areas of study: these are so-called subject specific scholarships. However, in addition to that, there are also non-subject specific scholarships available that are open to all students regardless of the degree program in which they are enrolled.
We currently anticipate approx. 82 scholarshis for the upcoming funding year in 2024/2025, both subject specific and non-subject specific, in all departments of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
Please note that when awarding the scholarships, first of all those sholarship holders will be considered who have already been funded in the funding year in 2023/2024 and who fulfill the performance and eligibility criteria for an extension of the scholarship (cf. Se§ 6 (2) StipG [external, german link, § 3 StipV external, german link). Therefore, only a smaller share of the total number of scholarships will be awarded to new applicants.
Research Class applications
The Research Class are a special project of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in which we combine the Deutschlandstipendium with interdisciplinary research work. In a Research Class, 12 to 15 scholars from different disciplines work together on an interdisciplinary topic for one year. The Research Classes are financed by a sponsor, and the content is supervised by researchers at the Humboldt-Universität. When applying for a Research Class, additional requirements must be met on top of the usual prerequisites.
How does it work in practice?
Dates: The Germany Scholarships and the themed classes are advertised every year in November/December. Funding begins at the start of the summer semester, on 1 April of the following year. No scholarships are awarded at the beginning of the winter semester.
Requirements: Please check the requirements here.
Procedure: Applications are submitted via the application portal. The portal will be activated at the end of November/beginning of December.
All documents will be submitted online. Please check the application procedure.
Selection: In January/February, the documents will be reviewed by the selection committees and the scholarship holders will be selected. Once the selection has been finalised, we determine which person will be sponsored by which sponsor (matching).
Feedback: In March, we inform all applicants of the selection results and finalise the scholarship contracts.
The scholarship holders receive their scholarship from 1 April.
